A short-term rental turnover looks like a house clean to anyone who has not done one. It is not. A house clean has a standard; a turnover has a standard AND a deadline, usually the few hours between an 11am checkout and a 3pm check-in, and it has to produce a property that photographs like the listing.
The cleaning itself is the part everyone gets right. What separates a good turnover is the second layer: linens stripped, laundered and remade to a consistent look, towels counted and folded the same way every time, consumables checked and restocked — paper, soap, coffee, dish tablets — and the small resets that guests notice without being able to name. Remotes back on the side table. Chairs squared up. Blinds at the same height in every window.
The third layer is the one that saves hosts money: reporting. A cleaner in the property between guests is the only person who sees it regularly, and they are the first to spot a stain that will not come out, a chipped mug, a slow drain, a missing hairdryer or damage that should be claimed while the claim window is still open. A turnover that includes a quick condition report is worth considerably more than one that does not.
Then there is timing, which is why our hours are what they are. Turnovers happen early and they happen late, and a same-day booking can compress the window to almost nothing. We are available Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM specifically because that is when this work exists — a cleaner who only answers between nine and five is not much use to a host with a 9pm check-in.
The same shape applies to apartment complexes. A unit turnover between tenants is the identical problem with a different deadline: make-ready cleaning, sometimes with furniture or debris to haul out first, and a leasing agent waiting to show the unit.
